His career, highlighted by the 2012 Gerald Wilson Award for composition, blossomed further after moving to New York in 2016, where he collaborated with global artists and released his acclaimed album, Still Time To Quit, in 2020, securing the #3 spot in the Seattle Times' "Best Local Jazz Albums of 2020." Renowned for his work with vocalists and contributions to world music, McCarthy's influence extends to performances with Carnatic and Gnawa musicians, as well as features on albums by rising stars and appearances on BBC Radio 1 and Questlove’s social media. Currently, he stars in Dormeshia’s "Rhythm is Life," a New York Times Critic’s Pick. Born in Kobe, Japan, Takuya Kuroda is a trailblazing trumpeter known for his distinctive fusion of jazz, funk, post-bop, fusion, and hip-hop. Inspired by his trombonist brother, Takuya moved to New York to study jazz and contemporary music at The New School. Establishing a robust presence in New York's jazz scene post-graduation, Takuya has performed with Akoya Afrobeat and, more recently, with DJ Premier’s BADDER band, earning high praise from Premier for his hip-hop-influenced jazz style.
