His unique sound blends jazz, funk, and fusion, and he has served as the lead vocalist for ensembles such as the SFJAZZ Collective, The Roots, and Too $hort. When not producing his own music, he performs with Moon Medicin, a multimedia performance group that combines found cinema, original songs, and theatrical costumes. He is currently finishing his fifth studio album, Welcome Back Love, set to release in October 2025. In addition to his musical career, Luther is an actor and voice talent. He gained recognition for portraying a Jimi Hendrix-inspired character in the film Across the Universe (Sony/Columbia), directed by Julie Taymor. His voice can be heard in commercials, theater productions like Father Comes Home From the Wars, and on various soundtracks, including Chasing Liberty, The Roots Present, Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, and the score of The Oracle by interdisciplinary artist Sanford Biggers, co-founder of Moon Medicin. Luther’s collaborations extend to dance music phenom Miguel Migs, with their recent track “Keep on Dreaming” released earlier this year on Salted Music. Known for his love of classic covers, he recently released his rendition of Elton John’s “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” produced by Scojac, which has quickly gained playlist attention since its release on July 11, 2025. His original work includes the Prince-influenced R&B track “Now,” characterized by its genre-blending sound—an expression of his belief in pushing creative boundaries beyond expectations. Following his performance as a special guest at the Stern Grove Festival on August 3, 2025, Luther will be live on stage at the Black Cat to perform alongside Black London members Kev Choice and Howard Wiley.
