Led by Diné trumpeter, composer, and educator Delbert Anderson, this powerhouse ensemble weaves Navajo “spinning songs” of love, healing, and courtship into a genre-bending tapestry of jazz, funk, and hip hop. Anderson’s music pulses with the landscapes and stories of his Navajo Nation roots, bridging ancestral melodies with modern jazz to create sounds both timeless and trailblazing. From compositions like The Long Walk: 1,674 Days – a poignant reflection on Navajo history – to charting new sonic territory with his upcoming tributes to Indigenous jazz legends Don Cherry and Jim Pepper, Anderson continues to redefine what Native American jazz can be. Robert Muller brings his versatile touch, honed from mentorship under Blue Note legend Andrew Hill and performances at iconic NYC venues like the Blue Note and Knitting Factory, adding rich harmonic layers to the group’s soundscape. Khalill Brown, with roots in the Blackfoot and Cherokee tribes, fuses the fiery power of funk and fusion drumming with rhythms from reggae, hip hop, and jazz, creating grooves that elevate and energize every listener. Evan Suiter, a genre-spanning bassist who’s performed alongside Tito Puente Jr. and Bob Dorough, anchors the quartet with effortless fluidity, bridging traditions from jazz to Latin to funk with warmth and precision. Together, the Delbert Anderson Quartet offers more than a concert – it’s a journey through the intergalactic realms of Indigenous jazz expression. Expect soulful trumpet melodies, explosive rhythms, and deep spiritual grooves that will leave you transformed.
