New listeners who've spent their lives listening to Tween Wave can relate no less than those of us who've explored every millimeter of the jazz continuum” - The Wall Street Journal Guitarist Brent Canter returns to Black Cat to present his unique take on the modern jazz quartet. A Los Angeles native who developed his sound as part of the New York music scene, Brent has earned critical praise from publications ranging from Jazz Times to the Wall Street Journal. An ASCAP Award-winning composer, in-demand session guitarist and songwriter, Brent's writing style blends influences ranging from classic jazz to alternative rock to drum and bass music. His sound is characterized by often-distorted guitar playing and legato lead lines with deep grooves, dynamic harmony and memorable melodies. A student of Blue Note legend Kenny Burrell while in college, Brent has developed a distinctly modern style on the guitar which draws on classic sounds, but pushes the instrument into new territory sonically and technically. Brent frequently collaborates with some of the leading voices on the current jazz scene including Bob Reynolds, Julian "J3PO" Pollack, Sam Barsh and Kaveh Rastegar. For his Black Cat run, Brent's group with feature piano sensation Max Haymer (Arturo Sandoval/Jane Monheit), bass innovator Nick Campbell (Pomplamoose/Scary Pockets) and drum great Charles Ruggiero (Larry Goldings/Bob Reynolds).
