His story begins in Caracas, Venezuela, where his professional career began at age 16. Born into a musical family, Chakarji’s first professional gigs were in the church before he became deeply immersed in Afro-Venezuelan music. The influences of cultures, rhythms and harmonies became Gabriel’s own personality; his compositions and playing are rooted in social justice and multiculturalism. A native of Cumaná, Venezuela, Nathasha Bravo began performing at the young age of 6, performing in regional, national and international folk festivals, such as Folkfaro 2010, held in the City of Faro, Portugal, where she represented Venezuela as a solo singer. She teams up with Gabriel Chakarji for a 4-night residency at Black Cat. Don't miss it!
